Seen. And well seen.
Macnica ATD Europe distributes the components that enable machines to see. The company was founded in France under the name ATD Électronique, a specialist in machine vision components, before joining the Japanese group Macnica in 2020, a semiconductor distributor founded in Yokohama in 1972. Its European headquarters is now located in Chatou, near Paris. For VISION Stuttgart, the world's leading trade fair for machine vision held every two years at the Stuttgart exhibition center in Germany, it entrusted Expace with the design and construction of its custom-built stand.
Image sensors, optics, 3D and Time-of-Flight modules, FPGAs, vision processors, OLED microdisplays: Macnica ATD Europe's catalog fits in one hand, but it conditions the operation of thousands of machines. The company does not sell a finished product; it accompanies vision system designers from the choice of sensor through to final development, with design-in support, evaluation kits, and reference designs, for clients developing industrial automation, IoT, embedded systems, and artificial intelligence as close to the sensor as possible. A technical, patient, and by nature invisible expertise, as it takes place inside the machines. That was the whole challenge of this booth: to make visible what cannot be seen, and to do so at VISION, the world's leading trade fair for machine vision, in a hall where every exhibitor speaks about exactly the same thing.
The answer begins with a suspended, white, illuminated lightbox, branded on all four sides, floating above the stand and readable from the end of the aisles, over the neighboring partitions; below, a signage band repeats the brand at eye level, so that Macnica ATD is identified even before looking for the stand number. The company's violet color then organizes the entire space: a large wall displays the logos of technological partners, Sony, Lattice Semiconductor, and Corning Varioptic Lenses, above a line of showcases integrated into the furniture where the components, tiny by definition, are presented at height, illuminated, and within reach. Further on, an arch of the same color marks the entrance to the reception area and holds the entire setup together.
In the center, technology is watched in action rather than explained: a robotized demonstrator in a transparent cage runs continuously, controlled from a touch console, while a large screen right behind scrolls through technical content for visitors who want to delve into the details of the functions. Cabling, power supply, and screens are integrated into the millwork, with no visible trunking or cables on the floor. At the back, the atmosphere changes completely: light wood batten partitions, bench seating, high tables, stools, warm pendant lighting, and a cherry blossom tree discreetly recall the group's Japanese origins, allowing a transition from demonstration to business discussion without leaving the stand, in a lower, quieter space, protected from the foot traffic. The light wooden flooring unifies the whole and sets the boundary with the hall's carpet.
